Seasonal Class Series

Each year, Park Central offers adults a number of seasonal class series that explore special topics of faith in some depth.

2014-2015

It’s Time to Stop, Pray, Work, Play and Love – Lent 2015

A five-week series based on the Lenten offerings from the Society of Saint John the Evangelist.

Our disordered relationship with time is at the root of so many of the stresses and anxieties people experience today.  Our Lenten series and devotionals offer a guide to reordering our relationship to time so that we may be drawn into the abundant life which Jesus promises us.

Focusing on What is Truly Important Fall 2014

A series on Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now by Walter Brueggemann.

We can quickly become breathless and lose our way in a world that promotes over-exertion, over-activity, and overwhelming anxiety.  Walter Brueggemann writes that true Sabbath keeping in our time is not about keeping rules but rather about becoming a whole person and restoring a whole society.  He speaks into our society of consumption, a society in which we live to achieve, accomplish, perform, and possess. We want more, own more, use more, eat more, and drink more. Keeping the Sabbath allows us to break this restless cycle and focus on what is truly important: God, other people, all life.            Dr. Brueggemann offers a transformative vision of the wholeness God intends, giving world-weary Christians a glimpse of a more fulfilling and simpler life through Sabbath observance.

Contemplative Evenings – Advent 2014

An Advent series focused on scripture reading, contemplative practices, reflection, music and prayer.  This series provides a way for those who seek a quieter path through the season.

In additional to our regular series, we also offer quarterly special events that help us learn more about our call to care for God’s creation.
